This is a portrait of a dear friend's daughter, who is also an artist. I asked her to model for me and caught this enigmatic pose. While she's basking in the sun, the harsh light creates dramatic shadows around her eyes, mouth & neck. She herself, is rather pensive and quiet, the lone introvert in a large gregarious family. The title comes from a line of a song from one of her favorite bands, Death Cab for Cutie. At 19, one's life melody is still in its prelude and is yet to be fully sung.
